Join Silsden Community Library

As a Member of Silsden Community Library you can enjoy access to thousands of books as part of Bradford Libraries as well as free subscription to on-line books, newspapers and magazines.

Staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers the library is located in Silsden Town Hall. We are open 5 days a week with extended hours on Tuesdays.

The library is for all residents. This John Liddle photograph shows you our youngest member 13-month-old Ryan Perry, and the most senior user Irene Atkinson. Ryan was helped by his mum, Cheryl Gaukroger.

Volunteers Recognised For Efforts

Silsden Community Library has a large number of valued volunteers. Bradford council withdrew library staff in April 2018. Since then our dedicated volunteers have done an amazing job for Silsden residents.

If you can spare an hour or two and would like to be a library volunteer, please drop into the library and make yourself known to the team. You’ll be made most welcome.

What Services Does Silsden Community Library Offer?

Children’s Activities

Pre-School

Come and join in with our Storytime and Rhymetime sessions for pre-school children on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:30 – 2:30pm. It is advisable to reserve a space for this session by either dropping into the library or by telephoning 07582 102307. The responsible adult must remain with their child for this event.

Bookstart Bear Club

Bookstart is the national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible. We do this by gifting free book packs at around 9-12 months and 4 years. There’s lots more information on the Bradford Libraries website here.

Science Club

On the first Saturday of the month we hold a Science Club from 10am to 11am. It is advisable to reserve a space for this session by either dropping into the library or by telephoning 07582 102307. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Chess Club

Held every Monday afternoon from 3:45pm – 6pm in the Town Hall Meeting Room the Chess Club is open to all ages and all abilities; complete beginners are very welcome. We have some training material, provided by Chess in Schools and Communities, which will help even the youngest to start playing the game and have fun. There is no need to book, just turn up, although those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
